Ivan Rakitic has sent a message to Al Shabab and their fans upon his departure from the club, saying he will return to the Kingdom in future "one way or another".
The Croatian midfielder, 36, leaves the Roshn Saudi League after a six-month spell in Riyadh. Rakitic played eight RSL matches for Al Shabab, scoring once - a spectacular strike on debut.
Memorably, Rakitic chose to wear the No.30 shirt during his time at Al Shabab to commemorate His Royal Highness Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman's Vision 2030 – and it is clear Rakitic's stay in Saudi Arabia has had a real impact on the 2018 FIFA World Cup finalist.

On Sunday, Rakitic posted a video message in which he spoke glowingly of his connection to both the club and country.
“Dear fans, management, staff, and supporters, when I arrived six months ago you welcomed me as one of yours and I quickly felt at home with my family," Rakitic said. "I discovered a new country, a new culture and a beautiful religion. It was an enriching and unforgettable experience.
“I am proud to have been part of this project, which I strongly believe in. With all the efforts and hard work, I am confident that Saudi Arabia will become a key player [on the] international stage.
Thank you Ivan @ivanrakitic 🖤🤍

“However, today our paths diverge. This is a personal decision, driven by a unique opportunity I felt compelled to seize for my future. I am forever grateful to you all and I wish you nothing but the best. And I say goodbye for now, as I will return one way or another. Yalla Shabab.”
Rakitic, who previous to Al Shabab had spent 13 years in La Liga with Sevilla and Barcelona, is expected to continue his career in his homeland with Hajduk Split.
