Aubameyang: "I'm here to put on a show"

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has vowed to put on a show for fans of new club Al Qadsiah following the announcement of his move to the Roshn Saudi League.

The French-born striker, who has enjoyed a prolific career across spells at Saint Etienne, Borussia Dortmund, Arsenal, Barcelona, Chelsea and Olympique de Marseille, was confirmed on Thursday as the ambitious Al Khobar side’s latest recruit.

Aubameyang, 35, left Marseille earlier this week and has agreed to a two-year contract with Al Qadsiah.

In his first official interview since signing, Gabon’s all-time leading scorer told the club’s official channels from their training camp in Venlo, the Netherlands: “To tell you the truth, I’m very happy and very excited to come here, and I can't wait. I can't wait to discover the team, the staff and obviously also the country soon.”

Al Qadsiah are back in the RSL for the first time since 2021, courtesy of winning last season’s First Division League. They have marked their return to the top flight with some standout signings this summer, including former Real Madrid captain Nacho, Uruguay international Nahitan Nandez from Cagliari, and Belgian international goalkeeper Koen Casteels from Wolfsburg.

With more than 400 goals in his professional career to date, Aubameyang looks the ideal frontman to fire the club forward.

“My challenge is to continue what I've been doing all my career and all my life: scoring goals,” he said. “And try to give my experience to the team and to the players.”

In a message to the Al Qadsiah supporters, he added: “Hopefully I can see them very soon. I can't wait to see them, and I will try to give them some goals and obviously some show. Because I'm a showman; I think everyone knows that.”

The most recent high-profile addition to the fast-developing RSL, Aubameyang said: “It's getting better and better. You can see in the last years a lot of improvements and I think it's getting more competitive. And obviously we're here to bring the level higher.”
