Laporte and Nacho crowned Euro 2024 champions

The Roshn Saudi League now boasts two UEFA European Championship Germany 2024 winners after Aymeric Laporte and Nacho helped Spain to a record fourth continental title.

Al Nassr’s Laporte played the entire final against England on Sunday, proving a rock at the heart of the Spanish defence and setting the platform for the 2-1 victory in Berlin. Nacho, a recent signing at newly promoted RSL club Al Qadsiah, was introduced as a second-half sub in Berlin, minutes before another substitute, Mikel Oyarzabal, struck the winner.

European champions in 1964, 2008 and 2012, Spain won all seven matches in Germany to seal the trophy for an unprecedented fourth time. Laporte, part of the Al Nassr team who finished runners-up in last season’s RSL, was integral to the success.

After missing Spain’s opening game against Croatia, the centre-back played in all six matches from then, completing more minutes (525) than all but three players in Luis de la Fuente’s 26-man squad. Laporte's 24 attempted clearances ranked in the tournament’s top 10, while he sat fifth in the charts for balls recovered, with 37.

Nacho, meanwhile, featured in four games, including a fine display as a starter in the 2-1 semi-final victory against France.

The two Spanish stars will now be given an extended break before returning to their clubs to prepare for the 2024-25 RSL season, which kicks off on August 22. Al Nassr open their account at home to Al Raed, with Al Qadsiah hosting Al Fateh.
