Al Hilal goalkeeper Yassine Bono collected the Roshn Saudi League 2023-24 Goalkeeper of the Season award after an exceptional debut campaign with the record champions.
Bono, signed in the summer, edged out Al Ahli’s Edouard Mendy based on goals conceded after the two goalkeepers each kept 15 clean sheets. The Moroccan conceded 20 goals, 13 fewer than his rival.
Having joined from Spanish side Sevilla, a club in which he led to winning the 2022-23 UEFA Europa League, Bono excelled in Al Hilal colours, producing 62 saves in all. His 75 percent save percentage was the highest among all goalkeepers with 10 or more appearances in the league this campaign.
Bono, 33, won the RSL Goalkeeper of the Month award three times (October, November and February) - more than any other player in the league. Earlier this year, Bono was included in the shortlist for The Best FIFA Men's Goalkeeper award.
Born in Montreal, Canada, the current Al Hilal keeper impressed for the Morocco national team that became the first African side in history to reach the FIFA World Cup semi-final, achieving the feat at the 2022 global finals in Qatar.
